Clinical Rotations at HNL Lab Medicine

HNL Lab Medicine welcomes clinical rotation students from various college and university programs. Your clinical rotation will greatly expand your knowledge of laboratory medicine. It will provide you with opportunities to work with cutting-edge technologies and observe development of new methodologies while producing life-saving patient results.

Clinical rotations offered include Phlebotomy Technician, Medical Laboratory Technician, Clinical Laboratory Scientist, Cytotechnologist, Histotechnician, and Pathologist’s Assistant.

A laboratory clinical rotation offers a learning opportunity for students enrolled in an accredited Allied Health educational program. Conducted in a laboratory environment, it enables students to apply the knowledge acquired from their affiliate school.

During the student rotation:

  • Students start with an introduction to the laboratory setting, including safety protocols and standard operating procedures.
  • Learn best practice techniques under supervision, students conduct a variety of laboratory tests and utilize various testing methodologies. 
  • Students engage with medical technologists, pathologists, and other laboratory staff to understand the clinical significance of lab results.
  • Throughout the rotation, participants develop skills in specimen collection, equipment operation, quality control, and troubleshooting.

To arrange their rotations with HNL Lab Medicine, students must first attend an affiliate school to meet educational requirements.

Students interested in selecting HNL Lab Medicine for their clinical rotation externship must choose from one of the affiliated programs.

To fulfill their educational requirements before HNL Lab Medicine can arrange rotations, students must attend an affiliate school. These schools provide the necessary foundational knowledge and skills for success during rotations at HNL Lab Medicine.

Once enrolled, HNL Lab Medicine works with your school’s program director to schedule you for the correct clinical rotation completing your final year in college.
