HNL Lab Medicine is proud to celebrate Sajjad Masood Malik, MD, Medical Director of Digital Pathology, for being named to The Pathologist Power List 2026: Leading Voices.
Each year, The Pathologist recognizes 50 laboratory professionals from around the world whose ideas, expertise, and leadership are helping shape the future of pathology and laboratory medicine. This year honorees were selected for their work addressing some of the profession’s biggest challenges, from innovation and workforce changes to improving laboratory processes and patient care.
Dr. Malik was recognized for his leadership in advancing digital pathology, an area that is transforming how pathologists work, collaborate, and provide diagnostic services. Over the past two years, he has led HNL Lab Medicine’s transition to a fully digital surgical pathology workflow, helping create more streamlined workflows, expand opportunities for consultation and subspecialty expertise, and provide greater flexibility for pathologists.
His work is now focused on one of the remaining challenges in digital pathology: bringing cytopathology into routine digital practice. Dr. Malik is collaborating with nationally recognized experts from institutions including the University of Michigan, University of Pittsburgh, Cleveland Clinic, and Ohio State University to evaluate emerging technologies and identify practical solutions for the field.
Beyond innovation, Dr. Malik is also committed to education and mentorship. “Sharing knowledge and mentoring the next generation of pathologists is an important part of advancing our profession,” said Dr. Malik. He helps mentor medical students, residents, fellows, and colleagues pursuing careers in pathology, helping prepare future pathologists for an increasingly digital profession.
His recognition on The Pathologist Power List adds to his accomplishments, including receiving the Physician Excellence in Clinical Practice Award for the Lehigh Valley Region. Through his leadership, collaboration, and commitment to innovation, Dr. Malik continues to help advance digital pathology while keeping quality patient care at the center of his work.
