  1. Transport specimen in the original collection container.
  2. For FFPE specimens, a pathology report is recommended to be sent with the sample.
Transport Instructions

Transport to the laboratory frozen.

Causes for Rejection
  • Sputum
  • Blood, serum, plasma, stool/rectal swabs
  • No citrated or heparinized solutions
  • Tissues floating in formalin
  • Swab/fluid collected in tube containing agar
Methodology
Varies By Test
Reference Intervals

See patient report.

Limitations

Fresh tissue is the optimal specimen of choice, as it reduces the chance of introducing exogenous DNA templates or microorganisms during embedding/fixation. Formalin fixation dramatically reduces the sensitivity of the assays due to reduced template yield and quality.

What triggers the reflex testing
When there is evidence of multiple bacterial templates present, Bacterial detection by 16S Next Generation Sequencing will be performed at an additional charge.
