Preferred Specimen Type: Oral Fluid

Preferred Collection Container: Intercept®i2he™ Oral Fluid Collection Device

Desired Specimen Volume: 1 mL

1. Confirm the donor has not had anything in their mouth for 10 minutes prior to providing the oral fluid sample. If the donor has had anything in their mouth within the last 10 minutes, wait 10 minutes prior to the collection process.
2. Instruct the donor to remove the device from the side of the pouch labeled #1 by grabbing the plastic shaft of the collection pad. Ensure the donor does not touch the pad.
3. Instruct the donor to place the collection pad under the tongue with white side of the stick facing upward. Instruct the donor not to bite down on the device but to grip between the lips.
4. Instruct the donor to keep the pad under the tongue until the indicator turns blue.
5. If the collection time reaches 15 minutes and the indicator has still not turned blue, stop the collection and proceed to step 6.
6. Instruct the donor to remove the device from their mouth and slowly place the collection device into the vial (side of pouch labeled #2).
7. Cap the vial.

• Interpretation is dependent on providing prescribed medication history.
• List only medications taken in the last 2-3 days.
• If using paper requisition, submit the specimen with a completed Oral Fluid- Compliance Drug Monitoring Requisition form (HNL-66).

Transport to the laboratory refrigerated.

Specimens received in any container other than the Intercept®i2he(TM) Oral Fluid Collection Device will be rejected.

• Interpretation and concentration of drug/metabolite in oral fluid is dependent on dose, time of dose and metabolic rate.
• Reported results are corrected to provide the concentration for NEAT Oral Fluid/Saliva.
