Clinical Utility

Culture based testing for the identification of Salmonella and Shigella. Molecular testing for bacterial pathogens with overlapping symptomology is recommended for improved sensitivity and turnaround time, see Bacterial Stool Profile, PCR, 4 Targets (order code MFEST).
Specimen and Container Info

Specimen: Stool

Collection Container: Para-Pak C&S or Cary Blair Vial

Volume: Collection container with specimen to the fill line.
Collection Instructions
  1. Stool should be placed in the collection container within 2 hours of collection.
  2. Fill collection container to the fill line.
  3. Recap and shake the vial to distribute the sample in the preservative.
Transport Instructions

 Transport to the laboratory at room temperature.
