This test is intended to be used as an aid in the diagnosis of infection with Epstein-Barr virus (EBV).
Specimen and Container Info

Specimen Type: Whole Blood

Alternate Specimen Type: CSF

Collection Container: Lavender Top (EDTA)

Alternate Collection Container: Yellow Top ACD or Sterile, Non-Additive Container (CSF) 

 

Desired Specimen Volume: 1 mL


 
Collection Instructions

Whole Blood

  1. Collect a lavender top (EDTA) tube via venipuncture.

CSF

  1. Collect CSF via lumbar puncture.
Processing and Submission Instructions

Whole Blood

  1. Transport 1 mL of whole blood in the original collection container.

CSF

  1. Transfer 1 mL of CSF to a sterile aliquot tube using a sterile pipette.
Transport Instructions

Transport to the laboratory refrigerated.
