Collection Instructions
  1. Collect 2 light blue top (sodium citrate) tubes via venipuncture.
Processing and Submission Instructions

Platelet-Poor Plasma Processing Instructions

  1. Separate plasma from cells within 4 hours of collection.
  2. Perform platelet-poor plasma procedure.
  3. Transfer 1.5 mL of platelet poor plasma to clear aliquot tube (screw cap). Freeze immediately.
Transport Instructions

Transport to the laboratory frozen. 
Stability Requirements

platelet poor plasma: 14 days at -20°C or 6 months at -70°C
Causes for Rejection
  • Clotted or under filled tubes
  • Excessive hemolysis, icterus, or lipemia
  • Specimens over 4 hours old at room temperature
