Routine genital cultures are rarely sufficient or appropriate as a standalone order but may be used for the isolation and identification of aerobic pathogens of the genital tract such as Neisseria gonorrhoeae and Gardnerella. Use of this order is recommended when no more specialized test order exists, the specimen source is not approved for alternate methodologies, or treatment failures have been observed. |
