Specimen and Container Info

Preferred Specimen Type: Plasma

Preferred Collection Container: Lavender Top (EDTA)

Alternate Collection Container: White Top (K2EDTA)

Desired Specimen Volume: 5 mL
Collection Instructions
  1. Collect specimen in three lavender top (EDTA) tubes or three white top (K2EDTA) tubes via venipuncture
  2. Centrifuge specimen within six hours of collection
  3. Transfer plasma to one or more screw-cap polypropylene transport tube(s)
Processing and Submission Instructions

Can submit if viral load is >500 copies/mL.

Separate specimens must be submitted when multiple tests are ordered.

Do not place samples on dry ice until completely frozen.
Transport Instructions

Transport to the laboratory frozen. 
Causes for Rejection
Use of green-top (heparin) tube, hemolysis, specimen at room temperature for more than 24 hours.
