  • To obtain a diagnosis; this may be used by the treating physicians to direct appropriate patient management and treatment.

Collection Instructions
  • Collect specimen in plastic container with 10% neutral buffered formalin.
  • If specimen requires additional specialized studies (i.e., electron microscopy), please contact the Histology Department at 484-425-8162 for corresponding fixative requirements.
Processing and Submission Instructions
  • Consult the pathologist prior to the biopsy procedure for specific instructions.
  • Submit specimen with an EPIC order, Tissue Pathology Requisition Form (HNL-31), or one of the laboratory's electronic forms.
  • Include patient history, source of specimen and requested testing.
  • After normal hours, call laboratory for on-call pathologist, prior to specimen collection (to allow for travel time)
