Included Tests

Markers Evaluated: CD3, CD4, CD7, CD8, CD19, CD45, KAPPA, and LAMBDA

Additional or different markers may be performed based on hematopathologist review.

Expected Turnaround Time

Clinical Utility

Immunophenotyping by flow cytometry distinguishes among various hematopoietic cell populations and determines the degree of expression of a panel of cell surface antigens. The test is used along with morphologic, cytogenetic, and molecular genetic analysis in the identification/classification of hematopoietic neoplasms (leukemia, lymphoma, myelodysplastic disorders, etc.).

Specimen and Container Info

Specimen: CSF

Container: Sterile, Non-additive Container (CSF)

Preferred Volume: 3 mL

Minimum Volume: 1 mL

Collection Instructions
Processing and Submission Instructions
  • Because non-viable cells lead to nonspecific monoclonal antibody binding, specimens should be processed as early as possible.
  • Specimens collected on a Friday should be received in the Flow Cytometry Department by 1600 to ensure same day processing.
Transport Instructions

Transport to the laboratory refrigerated.
