Specimen and Container Info

Specimen: Cerebrospinal Fluid

Collection Container: Sterile, Non-additive Container (CSF)

Desired Volume: 1 mL

Minimum Acceptable Volume: 0.5 mL

Processing and Submission Instructions

Concomitant CSF culture is warranted for the recovery of off panel targets and for subsequent susceptibility testing of any bacterial pathogens to aid treatment decisions.

Room Temperature

 24 hours

Refrigerated

7 days
Methodology
Multiplex Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR)

Limitations
  • This assay is not intended for use with CSF collected from indwelling medical devices.
  • For patients with specific risk factors for cryptococcal meningitis, the Cryptococcal Antigen (CRYPC) test is more sensitive option and should be considered if clinically warranted in the event the results of the panel are negative.
