The MGMT (O⁶-methylguanine-DNA methyltransferase) promoter methylation assay is primarily used in neuro-oncology, especially for gliomas. Patients that have MGMT promotor methylation tend to respond better to treatments involving alkylating chemotherapies. |

MGMT Methylation |
| Description | ||
The MGMT promoter methylation assay analyzes 12 CpG islands located within the MGMT promoter region. These 12 sites are evaluated for the presence of methylation. Methylation of the MGMT promoter can lead to gene silencing of the MGMT DNA repair gene, which could impact response to certain treatments. Results should be interpreted by the patient’s health care provider in the context of the patient’s clinical history and treatment plan. |
