| Description | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
Ohdo syndrome, SBBYS variant (SBBYSS) - Say-Barber-Biesecker-Young-Simpson syndrome (SBBYSS; MIM 603736) is a variant of Ohdo syndrome, a disorder characterized by blepharophimosis and mental retardation. Individuals with SBBYSS have a distinct facial appearance with severe blepharophimosis, ptosis and an immobile, expressionless face. Other common features include mental retardation, unusually long thumbs and great toes, joint hypermobility, dental anomalies, hypothyroidism and hearing impairment. Cardiac defects and dislocated or hypoplastic patellae are seen in some patients. SBBYSS is an autosomal dominant disorder caused by mutations in KAT6B, which encodes lysine acetyltransferase 6B, a histone modifying enzyme involved in gene regulation. All currently reported SBBYSS mutations are nonsense or frameshift changes and most are localized to the last exon of KAT6B (exon 18). Mutations in KAT6B also cause genitopatellar syndrome (GTPTS; MIM 606170), a clinically distinct disorder with some overlapping features. |
