Specimen and Container Info

Specimen Type: Supernatant Fluid (protein-free filtrate)

Collection Container: Green Top (Sodium or Lithium Heparin) and Pyruvate Collection Kit

Alternate Collection Container: Lavender Top (EDTA) or Gray Top (Fluoride Oxalate) and Pyruvate Collection Kit

Desired Specimen Volume: 4.5 mL
Collection Instructions
  1. Collect a green top (sodium or lithium heparin) tube via venipuncture.
  2. Immediately after collection, vigorously mix 4mL of whole blood with 4 mL pre-chilled, ice cold 7% or 8% Perchloric Acid.
  3. Maintain 1:1 ratio for whole blood and Perchloric acid.
Processing and Submission Instructions
  1. Let mixture stand for 10 minutes then centrifuge.
  2. Transfer 4.5 mL of supernatant to clear aliquot tubes (screw cap).
Transport Instructions

Transport to the laboratory refrigerated.
