This order is for the identification of agents of bacterial infections in tissue specimens.

Collection Container: Sterile Container
Collection Instructions
  • Collect specimen from prepared site using sterile technique. Avoid contamination with normal flora.
  • Place tissue in sterile container covered with a small amount of sterile non-bacterial static saline.
  • Any specimen for culture should be separated from the specimen submitted for histopathology.
Processing and Submission Instructions
  • Delays in specimen processing by the laboratory may result in decreased recovery of fastidious pathogens.
  • Refrigeration can impact the recovery of fastidious organisms.

Send to the laboratory at room temperature.
